A Breath of Freedom

Image
A Breath of Freedom Today we celebrate our Independence Yet do we breathe free? The Rona can take our breath away How do we breathe? George Floyd- "I Can't breathe" Do we allow breath? We mask and use breath against each other Is our breath ours or "ours"? How often do we actually think about breathing? Do we respect our own breath, others? Do we think of its value and what life without it means? Do we practice breathing outside and in, within? Do we share breath? Do we teach breath? Breathe Deeply! Breathe Free! A Breath of Freedom

Living to the Plus Through a Pandemic

Image
How do you feel right now? Do you feel strong, weak, afraid, confused, anxious, like a caged animal, or a animal fighting for survival? I feel like the animal fighting for survival! I feel like my whole life has prepared me for this moment, this crisis, this pandemic. I am not going to get political or anything, but we have royally screwed up! Life= Living + Disease + Sick + Health + Death + Natural Selection = A Stronger Species The US has become weak and needs hardship to become stronger = Facts of Life. We can’t beat nature with idiocy and ignorance. We can reduce our risk and improve our chances by getting strong, getting healthy, getting off our butts, getting out side, planting and growing our own food, eating right, getting active, and helping other to do the same. The shut down made sense at first but we screwed it up. People can’t follow directions. Every day we continue not functioning as a smarter society means more and more serious pro...

Getting into Triathlon is no easy feat. I would think the majority of people who get into triathlon their first year probably feels like 6th grade in Middle School. You don't know where to go, you don't know who anyone is, you don't know the lingo and you probably have no clue about training or racing. Is this correct? This is what coaches are for, and groups, the tri community is a great one to help find your way. Are you doing your first triathlon this season? Are you in your first couple of season and still trying to figure out the whole race thing. I am writing the blog to help you out and guide you a bit. Many athletes make it through th...

3 Ways to Create a Healthy Kitchen- for Meal Prep

Image
Do you cook a lot? Do you cook at all? When you cook, is it fresh or from a box or bag? Did you know cooking once or twice a week can really set you up for better health and save some cash? On average, most Americans eat out over 5 times a week. Eating out is typically 5 times more expensive than cooking at home. Eating out increases coronary heart disease by 80%... What is your challenge to cooking at home? Time? Skill or confidence in the kitchen? Knowing what to cook? Nick to the Plus is here to help. QueenT and I are trying to get into the habit of cooking every Sunday for the week. Our goal is to cook at least two meals to have some variety in the week for lunch and dinner. These days even with time as a factor we can now plan out our week ahead and order from H-E-B Curbside or Favor . We recently signed up for Rich Roll's Plant Power Meal Planner . The 3M Half Marathon

Image
Who is running the 3M Half Marathon this weekend? The 3M Half Marathon and I go way back. If I remember correctly, this was my first half marathon, back when I was 14 years old! Also, if I remember correctly (Athlinks does not accumulate results before 2000 I believe), I ran this first 3M half  marathon in 1 hour and 18 min. This was just under a 6 min pace for 13.1 miles. I think it was this same year, but I also have one of most dreadful memories at this race. It was below freezing at the start line that year. I was wearing gloves, but cotton gloves. At about half way, I remember spilling quite a bit of water on my gloves. Soon enough my hands went numb. If you have ever had an similar experience, you know what happened next. When I finished the race, but hands began to thaw. This was extremely painful like knives were cutting my fingers and hands. I ended up living through this experience, but I learned a good lesson and ordered water wicking gloves and a water proof shell...

To End 2019 and the Decade, Bring in 2020

Image
My first thought about ending the year and the decade is it went too fast! Where does the time go? In 2009 Mathis was 2 and River was 5 now they are so big and smart. I miss my little guys but love my big boys. I was still married in 2009. Still had Seidel Productions- River Road Run, TXTri, San Marcos River Ranch Tri... All that has change and major life lessons learned. This past year was the first full year back at H-E-B and I am grateful for that. It has been a year of thinking, discovery and choices. Since losing my events all but still working with Texas State, where my career started and it has come full circle. It has been a year of trying to decide where I want to go with my career as an event promoter. Do I just sit back be lazy, earn my pay check from HEB and just be normal and boring?  Do I continue to pursue and re-create traditional events like runs and tris?  Do I pursue ideas I have about non-traditional events?  Do I create an entirely differe...
